new president Brian Green
Brian Green, director of golf course operations at Lonnie Poole Golf Course, has been named the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendant Associations’s (GCSA) 52nd president. Green was elected at the association’s annual meeting during Conference and Show at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center yesterday. He takes over from Alex Tolbert, from Orangeburg Country Club in Orangeburg, SC.
“It’s been very rewarding to serve on the board for the past eight years, and I look forward to continuing to lead and represent the best chapter of golf course superintendents in the world,” Green said. “I’m only able to be here today because of the many blessings God has given me.”
Among them, Green said, were his parents who taught him his work ethic and his wife April, who he met in college at NC State in the same year he got his first job in golf. “Needless to say, with her supporting me, my GPA immediately went up, and I just became a much better person, a much more responsible person.”
He also cited three mentors, two of whom are Carolinas GCSA past-presidents: Paul Jett, CGCS, who hired Green at Duke University Golf Club, and Doug Lowe, CGCS who gave him his first assistant superintendent opportunity at Treyburn Country Club. The third was Mark Snell, who he worked with at Treyburn and who later took over from Lowe.
